I'm considering adopting a greyhound dog missing a toe on it's front foot (the one on the right side, so it's 'pinkie' in human terms).
It doesn't seem to hobble or act weird about it, it does sometimes tend to lean on the other three toes (so they kind of curve a bit more than they probably should), as if the fourth one was there. From what you've described, it sounds like he is missing digits 2 and 3 from his rear left leg (digit one is the dewclaw, and we count it even if it is not present). Digit 3 is one of his major weight bearing digits on the rear left leg and digit 4, which he has, is the other. Dogs do extremely well with missing toes, and even missing entire legs.

Actually my first dog had her outside toe on her front leg amputated due to cancer in the bone.
I can post a picture if you like, she was 10 or 11 and never had any lameness issues untill she died. Different scenario i know but they cope amazingly well. I do think missing one vs 2 toes is much different. This is a sub for professional veterinary advice, and as such we follow strict rules for participating.
